Las Meninas de Gudiño
200 x 200 cm / Acrylic and mix on canvas

In 2012, Gudiño had a transformative encounter with Velázquez's "Las Meninas" at the Museo del Prado, becoming captivated by its mystery and rich narrative. This moment marked the beginning of his reinterpretation of the work, imbuing it with a contemporary and deeply personal vision.
Gudiño's interpretation respects Velázquez's original light and composition, but introduces a square structure, lower than the classical work. By removing the ceiling, Gudiño opens up an infinite sky filled with constellations, highlighting the Infanta and the maids of honor under his distinctive stamp. Velázquez's self-portrait, painting within the scene, retains a special place, underlining the importance the master gave to his own role as a creator.
On the floor, tiles with the flower of Barcelona pay homage to the city that hosts the artist, connecting the work to Gudiño's present and his current experiences.
The vibrant colours and energy of the painting capture attention from a distance, while as you get closer, the textures and symbols reveal narratives within narratives, weaving a complex and multiple story that invites you to explore every corner. The lines and signs, characteristic of Gudiño's style, build a universe that fuses the baroque with a modern and pop touch.
Numerous versions have emerged from this reinterpretation, but this is a completely personal creation. It is an affirmation of identity and creativity, a tribute that bears Gudiño's unmistakable signature.
