This series explores in depth themes related to identity, introspection, and the interaction between the individual and their environment. In each work, there is a recurring use of patterns, symbols, and lines that shape abstract and stylized faces, suggesting a reflection on the complexity of identity. Here, the face becomes a canvas where both internal experiences and external influences are expressed.
The focus on the eyes of the figures acts as a central symbol of perception and awareness. These wide and detailed eyes evoke deep introspection, symbolizing both the ability to observe and to be observed. In this way, they invite the viewer to engage in a reflective dialogue about identity and self-image. The stylized crowns or coronal peaks that adorn the heads reinforce the idea of power and authority, but, on a more subtle level, they also allude to sovereignty over one's own identity, a notion that recurs throughout the artist's work. The reiteration of this symbol underscores the concept of self-affirmation amidst external influences.
The geometric and abstract patterns that construct the faces and bodies represent the amalgam of social, cultural and personal influences that shape the individual. The inscriptions and textures add a narrative layer, suggesting that identity is not static, but is in a constant process of construction and deconstruction.
The stars, sparkles and floating shapes that surround the figures establish a connection with something beyond the individual, be it the cosmos or the energy that surrounds it. This suggests an interdependence between personal identity and external forces, such as society, culture and life experiences.
Taken together, these pictorial works by Gudiño invite us to reflect on the fluid and complex nature of human identity. Through the use of symbols of power, perception and abstract patterns, the artist explores the tension between self-affirmation and the influence of the environment in the formation of the self.
